Strolling along Anketell St, trying to make my mind up for lunch with friends during this end of season period, and there is a myriad of meals and restaurants to choose from. What to eat, what to eat?
Asian Noodle House – Combination laksa and a Coke $15
I love laksa. A lot. And one of my favourite places to eat laksa is the Asian Noodle House. It never fails. There’s not much else to say, other than these laksa’s are an absolute staple of the public servant lunch diet. I always add extra tofu, because they’re like little sponges of deliciousness to soak up all the spicy coconut richness.
Milligram – Rueben Sandwich on sourdough $15
There is a new kid in town, and they’re bringing some healthy food along with them. Milligram prides itself on its organic menu, with their organic coffee beans delivered to the cafe and roasted and ground onsite. I visited them and tried their coffee and it is very good. But today I’m about sandwiches. Specifically a Rueben, I’ve never had a Rueben and had visions of this huge protein laden beast hitting my plate. But this toasted Rueben on sourdough was a good sized lunch effort. And the sauerkraut was very tasty, I must ask if they make this instore. Anyway, pop by and check them out.
Chalisa Indian – Chicken Korma lunch special with a glass of wine $20
I know, I know, this is supposed to be lunch for under $15, but when I saw this come out to my neighbour, I had to order it. The difference with this lunch special is that it comes with a glass of wine, and at this time of the year, that is almost a requirement for a Christmas work lunch! There were plenty of entree orders that can be combined with a roti and still come within the $15 budget, but heck, I splurged. And that bread, sigh, it’s fabulous.
BrewBar – Old Fashioned Beef burger and chips $14.90
Now this is a bargain. This old fashioned beef burger is piled high with fresh and tasty ingredients AND comes with fat crispy fluffy chips and aioli. It has a runny egg, pineapple, beetroot, cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce, mayo and tomato sauce. And a perfectly cooked juicy burger. I couldn’t eat it all so had to take half home for afternoon tea. Just like you used to get at the takeaway on the corner on a Friday, burger perfection.
Street of Asia – Lunch Special Black Bean Beef and a Vietnamese coffee $15
Nothing beats the December heat and gets you through a Thursday afternoon like a Vietnamese coffee. Street of Asia have a lunch special for around $10 each day, and adding a cold, strong coffee takes it up to $15. Black Bean beef and rice, is a perfect size to share with someone, when you order two of the specials, and big enough to completely fill you up if your’e eating on your own. It’s fresh and hot and tasty, a great combination of flavours.
These are just 5 of the many dishes available to you along Anketell Street, get out and try this great little restaurant strip at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome.
