Children’s parties often aren’t what they used to be! Perhaps it’s the effect of Pinterest or the rise of mummy bloggers, whichever the case, there’s a plethora of perfectly styled kids party images saturating the web which is making many parents want to pull off a similar standard for their children.
While we may not be able to access the party planning companies behind these stylish setups, we can steal some of the ideas to pull off our own epic kids party! And thanks to the wide range of party ware available at stores like Big W, Kmart and Target, it’s easier and more affordable than you may think.
1. Food station
Ok, ok, we’ll admit it’s usually always a cake table but we’ll generalise and say food station because you could put healthier foods on the table if you prefer. Regardless, every stylish kids party we’ve come across makes a focal point around this table and we’ve got different ideas for backdrops below.
To pull off a stylish food station, look at displaying things at different heights. For example, cake stands or simply elevating some trays slightly off the table will achieve this. Another idea, is to incorporate decor items that reference the party theme, for example bears and blue tones on the cake table below. Our top pick is this simple white cake stand from Target which is suitable for any celebration.
2. Balloon garland
A popular backdrop option is an oversized balloon garland. These can be made just with balloons, generally always in a few colours and blown up to different sizes, but can also integrate flowers, paper streamers, pom poms or other stylish elements.
Before you get flashes of passing out from blowing up a hundred balloons, you may like to check out this new balloon kit that’s available from Kmart or you could always visit your closest party store in Big W.
3. Paper streamer backdrop
This next backdrop idea is possibly more achievable and simply involves cutting many lengths of paper streamers and attaching them onto a bar. These backdrops look best when you pick 2-4 shades of a similar colour, like to the one pictured below (you can buy a pack of pink or a pack of blue streamers at Kmart). By the way, if you love those balloons, you can also find similar ones in pink or rainbow at Big W!
4. Floral garland
What little lady wouldn’t love a floral garland like this on their birthday?! Generally, event hire companies or florists would create this sort of arrangement but if you’re crafty you could use artificial flowers and branches from Lincraft or Kmart to create a similar display.
5. Paper fans, lanterns and honeycombs
A super popular decor idea for stylish kids parties is to use paper accessories, such as paper fans, lanterns or honeycomb shapes. Perhaps it’s because they’re quick and easy to put together, or because they create a big impact for little spend, or because they take up little storage space and can be reused for future events – whatever the reason, here are just a few examples of how you can use paper decor to style your child’s party!
